Wonder Woman Loses Out Again As ‘Amazon’ Dries Up

Hey, you know how the CW is developing series around the Flash, and also Hourman? How Constantine is getting a pilot on NBC and Gotham is so hot actors have to deny being cast as Commissioner Gordon? How’s Amazon, the Wondy prequel, doing? Great, right? Full steam ahead, chip shot, obvious winner!

Yeeeeeah, about that.

The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that Amazon is dead. But we’re probably still getting Hourman, according to THR:

“We did not go forward with it,” CW president Mark Pedowitz told The Hollywood Reporter following his Wednesday session at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. “It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow, and we’re being very careful with Flash,” [CW President Mark] Pedowitz said of the Stephen Amell series and Grant Gustin Flash pilot in the works at the network. “These are iconic characters, so we’re going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit.”

The article also mentioned iZombie is in the works, which is a good fit for the CW, but even so, come on. Smallville ran for a decade, Arrow is doing well in the ratings for a CW show, and it seems like an action series about a woman putting boot to ass would be a rather natural fit for a network that keeps giving money to Nikita.

We’ve noted before that Hollywood and DC both really struggle with Wonder Woman, but this is getting almost ridiculous at this point. If you expect us to take Hourman seriously, especially with a concept that’s basically Early Edition with more fistfights, you would think they would at least make a serious effort to put out a Wonder Woman tv show.

Look, we’ll help you: Put her in New York, give her a few human friends, and have her beat up a second-tier DC supervillain every episode. Boom, there’s your series. Call us with the check.
