‘Mortal Kombat X’ Has A New TV Spot To Make ’90s Kids Wistful

Mortal Kombat has a warm spot in the heart of everybody who was a kid in the ’90s, and this latest TV spot is a rather witty acknowledgement of where all those teenagers who spent hours looking for Nudalities in arcades wound up. Not least because it’s a clever riff on a little piece of ’90s nostalgia.

No, really. It’s actually a reference to the original “Mortal Monday” ad from 1993. It’s expanded a bit from the original, and thankfully, no guy my age dresses like an extra from a grunge album shoot anymore. But still, this took me right back to middle school. They were totally going to put this awesome, violent as heck game on the Super Nintendo, dude! That said, Kotaku found a video that improves the spot in a rather important, and obvious, way:

If you’re ready to remember the ’90s without the flannel, Mortal Kombat X arrives April 14.
