Marvel’s manliest superhero is finally ready for the big screen in the upcoming WWII-era comic book adventure “Captain America: The First Avenger,” starring Chris Evans in the title role. Some fans may have an iffy feeling after this summer’s hodgepodge of super hero movies, some good (“X-Men: First Class”) and some bad (“Green Lantern”), but these brand new clips should give you a good idea about what Cap is all about. And, rest easy, there are no major spoilers in these clips.
After a top secret military experiment turns puny Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) into the musclebound future-Avenger Captain America, the hero leads the fight against the Nazi warlord Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) and his army of genetically altered soldiers known as HYDRA.
In the first clip (above), Rogers is a 90-lbs weakling who defies expectations and proves that you don’t need to look brave in order to be brave. that’s what Captain America is all about — finding your own inner-super soldier.
It’s alive! The super soldier experiment works, much to the astonishment of Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci), Col. Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). The below clip also gives you a sample of the old-fashioned orchestral score by Alan Silvestri (“Back to the Future,” “Predator”).
Steve, meet shield. Shield, meet Steve. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. By the way, that’s Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) who made the shield. He’s Tony Stark’s dad! Marvel thinks of everything!
