‘Jurassic World 2’ Probably Won’t Take Place On An Island

When you make the third highest-grossing movie of all-time, studios never go, “You know, I think we told all the story we need to tell here. We don’t need a sequel.” So, we’re getting a sequel to Jurassic World. Maybe more. Now, according to a Wired interview with director Colin Trevorrow, we have an idea of what those sequels will entail. (Our guess? Probably dinosaurs.)

According to Trevorrow, the next film won’t be “just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island” because “that’ll get old real fast.” Rather, the film will explore how the science used to create the dinosaurs can be used elsewhere in the world. He compared it to nuclear power, saying, “When you look back, the first instinct was to weaponize it, and, later on, we found it could be used for energy.”

Jurassic World already touched on the idea of Velociraptors being used for military purposes (SPOILER ALERT: it didn’t end well), and the next film could be more of an exploration of that. Or, we could finally get that film version of Dino Crisis 3 I’ve been demanding.

Either way, the Jurassic World sequel, with both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard returning, will hit theaters in 2018.
