Will Ferrell Adds Ronald Reagan To His List Of Presidential Impressions In A New Movie

Christopher Meloni once said that “it’s every actor’s dream to wake up in New York City and go to an acting job rather than to a restaurant to wash dirty dishes.” No offense, Detective Stabler, but that’s how it used to be. Now, what every actor wants is the chance to play Ronald Reagan. In the past 12 months, there’s been Bruce Campbell on Fargo (“There’s not a challenge in this world that can’t be overcome by America”), Michael Showalter on Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, and now, Will Ferrell will play everyone’s favorite president who was also in an episode of Wagon Train.

Variety reports that Ferrell is attached to star as Reagan in a movie called, wait for it, Reagan, which “begins at the start of the ex-president’s second term when he falls into dementia and an ambitious intern is tasked with convincing the commander in chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie.” The script was written by Mike Rosolio in his feature-film debut.

This isn’t the first time Ferrell has portrayed a president, as any SNL fan knows. His George W. Bush impression was so good that fellow cast member Horatio Sanz once implied that it may have changed history (for better or worse, depending on who you ask). “When that election came up and it was really close — we’re talking about 10,000 votes maybe difference in Florida,” he said. “If people are on the fence, and they watch SNL and see Will Ferrell’s being W. and having a beer and being a bro, I think that maybe pushes it over. We’re talking about 10 million people that are watching that, and to say 10 thousand of those would be swayed by the television show isn’t too crazy.”

It’s unknown whether Ferrell will rap the entire movie, or only some of it.
