Trump Is Mad At The ‘Disgusting’ Media For Reporting About The Protests Outside The Detroit Church Where He Spoke

Donald Trump isn’t pleased. On Saturday, the Republican nominee visited Detroit where he attempted to court black voters while calling for “a civil rights agenda for our time.” He also walked the streets with surrogate (and former rival) Ben Carson and — in a rather obvious way — tried to make good on critics’ claims that he’s all talk and no action while painting inner cities as an urban hellscape and shrugging his shoulders with a “What do you have to lose?” If the above photo’s portrayed signage is any indication, the protesters outside Great Faith International Ministries believe they have “everything” to lose if Trump becomes president.

These marchers were not alone. A group of religious leaders also joined the assembled crowd, which Michigan Live claims contained “hundreds” or protesters. This photo shows many of these detractors, including religious leaders, rallying outside the church in a peaceful protest.

Trump’s candidacy is an in-your-face, highly visible bid. He tweets many times per day and schedules multiple rallies per week, and he (or his team) must be aware of the controversy that surrounds his candidacy. And naturally, the media reports his stupefying gaffes, so of course, they’re going to cover his attempts to tweak his own reputation, as well as the resulting fallout.

Well, Trump isn’t thrilled that the media mentioned the “small” protest outside the Detroit church. In a pair of tweets, he resurrected his favorite word, “disgusting,” to show he really feels.

Trump not only appears to be criticizing the coverage of himself but also the media’s presumed lack of Clinton coverage, but he’s disregarding a few points. First, there’s been plenty of reporting of the FBI’s report about Clinton’s private email server. And there was much mainstream coverage of newly released Clinton emails that concern Benghazi. Naturally, the coverage does seem skewed towards Trump mentions because he is so visible to reporters. He’s holding several rallies each week, and his dominant personality almost guarantees media attention. But Clinton’s receiving a fair amount of coverage for a candidate who holds occasional rallies and favors private fundraisers. Is her coverage as exciting? No, but it does exist.

Also — and here’s one instance where media coverage is favoring Trump — a few photos hint at slanted (intentional or not) mainstream portrayals of the Republican nominee. As seen below, Mae Turner tweeted out photo evidence that the Detroit church gathering was not as supportive as it seemed. The place looked half empty, but in all fairness, this could also be described as a “half-full” congregation. Regardless, these photos shows that Detroit support for Trump was not overwhelming as his campaign would hope you’ll believe.

This angle is even (to borrow a word from Trump himself) even more “sad.”
