George Clooney Called The ‘Daily Mail’ Out For Publishing Bullcrap About His Fiancee

British tabloid garbage website The Daily Mail posted an article earlier this week that stated George Clooney’s fiancee, Amal Alamuddin’s mother was “unimpressed” with the actor and that she had hoped that she would marry someone from within their strict Lebanese religious sect. Alamuddin, if you’re unaware, was born in Beirut in 1978 before her family moved to London in the ’80s.

Anyway, the article has since been taken down and I wouldn’t link to it anyway because see earlier the part about it being a garbage website (seriously it even crashes my browser because I think it’s somehow still hosted on Geocities or something), but George Clooney WAS NOT HAVING IT. Apparently George Clooney doesn’t care what you say about George Clooney, but when you try to start a religious flame war on his behalf he will smite you with the power of a thousand suns. Or, you know, a USA Today op-ed. You can read the whole thing here, but I’ve selected some choice excerpts:

First of all, none of the story is factually true. Amal’s mother is not Druze. She has not been to Beirut since Amal and I have been dating, and she is in no way against the marriage — but none of that is the issue. I’m, of course, used to the Daily Mail making up stories — they do it several times a week — and I don’t care. If they fabricate stories of Amal being pregnant, or that the marriage will take place on the set of Downton Abbey, or that I’m running for office, or any number of idiotic stories that they sit at their computers and invent, I don’t care.

But this lie involves larger issues. The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous. We have family members all over the world, and the idea that someone would inflame any part of that world for the sole reason of selling papers should be criminal.

Biggest takeaway here? Apparently George Clooney is not getting married at Downton Abbey, after all. But come on, it was already painfully obvious that the story was faaaaake because who’s not impressed with George Clooney? That’s like saying you’re unimpressed with Christ the Redeemer or the Great Pyramid of Giza or cronuts. It’s just not possible.
