While the picture you see is probably not the picture he uses on Grindr, it’s probably the one that North Dakota State Representative Randy Boehning would rather you see. No, “Randy Boehning” is also not his profile name. That would be “Top Man!” with the exclamation point. But Rep. Boehning was recently caught with his pants down, literally, when a 21-year-old he was trying to pick up on the hookup site received an unsolicited dick pic from Top Man! and figured out who Top Man! was.
Upon identifying Boehning, the younger man, Dustin Smith, took the dirty pics — as well as some additional pics of the lawmaker to better identify him — to his local paper, the Forum. The paper reached out to Boehning for a comment:
“That’s what gay guys do on gay sites, don’t they?” Boehning told The Forum. “That’s how things happen on Grindr. It’s a gay chat site. It’s not the first thing you do on that site. That’s what we do, exchange pics on the site.”
Seriously! He’s just doing what every healthy American male does, sending pictures of his dick to people who didn’t ask for them. So, what’s the big hairy deal? For starters, Boehning is a public figure who has essentially been involuntarily outed because of this incident. But the real kicker is his voting record, which has consistently been anti-gay rights; he has voted several times against anti-discrimination bills throughout his 12 years in the legislature, and he believes that his outing is payback for his latest vote.
A man who just admitted he was gay (but still attracted to women, he told the Forum) has been voting against his own interests in the North Dakota State Legislature. Apparently, this was a big elephant in the room among his peers who knew that Boehning was into men, and openly gay peers have threatened to out him in the past because of how he’s voted.
But rather than try to cover his tracks with a “wide stance” explanation, it appears that Boehning feels pretty liberated about the whole thing, saying that the “1,000-pound gorilla has been lifted.” So, if he doesn’t have to hide anymore, maybe he can be a better representative for people who are just like him.
