It’s hard to believe that Lollapalooza is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer. Was 1991 really that long ago? No, never mind. I don’t really want that question answered.
Moving on. Yes, Lollapalooza is celebrating 25 glorious years this summer and for the first time ever, they are expanding the Chicago festival to four days. Now reports of who will be headlining this year’s shindig are starting to see the light of day. According to Consequence of Sound, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the reunited LCD Soundsystem, as well as Lana Del Rey and J. Cole, will be headlining and will once again take place July 28-31 at Grant Park. Four-day passes for the festival go on sale on March 22 and the full lineup is expected to be released that day, as well.
Both Radiohead and the Chili Peppers have headlined Lollapalooza before; however, it’s the first time for LCD Soundsystem, who are making the rounds this summer while also headlining Bonnaroo, Coachella, Panorama and others. Radiohead, who are finishing up their ninth studio album, headlined the festival once back in 2008, and the Chili Peppers are breaking records with their headlining nod, as it’s their fourth time doing so. They played year two of the original festival back in 1992, as well as the 2006 and 2012 versions of the iconic alternative rock festival. Comparative newcomers Del Rey and Cole have never headlined the Windy City institution.
