It’s been a minute since we’ve had the lineup for a summer music festival announced, so I’d say we were due. Panorama, the new kid on the summer music festival block coming this July in New York City, announced the lineup for its inaugural run Tuesday morning, and it looks like a winner. Headlined by Kendrick Lamar, Arcade Fire and the reunited LCD Soundsystem, this first incarnation of the music, arts and technology festival, the brainstorm of the folks behind Coachella and the New Orleans Jazz Festival, will take place on Randall’s Island in NYC, July 22-24.
Let’s tackle this day by day.
Friday: Before closing out day one with Arcade Fire, Panorama’s Friday lineup features Alabama Shakes, Major Lazer, FKA Twigs, Silversun Pickups, DJ Khaled, Madlib, Broken Social Scene, Schoolboy Q and more. Friday will also feature a set by the legendary New Orleans’ band the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, which is always a good time.
Saturday: Saturday scores points with the inclusion of up and comer Anderson .Paak. The rest of the lineup isn’t too shabby, either, with The National and Sufjan Stevens providing the lead-in for Kendrick Lamar. Earlier in the day features Flosstradamus, Foals, Blood Orange, Kaytranada and some band called Horse Meat Disco, which is either fantastic band name or one of the worst band names ever. There’s not much in between there.
Sunday: The festival’s final day might be its strongest, anchored by LCD Soundsystem, Sia, A$AP Rocky, Run the Jewels and Kurt Vile & The Violators. It also includes Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Grace Potters, SZA, The Front Bottoms, Holy Ghost! and more. And it’s Prinze George, not Prince George. So, I wouldn’t go expecting to British royalty.
Passes for Panorama go on sale Friday March 4, with general admission for the entire festival starting at $369. There is still no word if single-day passes will be available.
