Josh Barnett and Bas Rutten are pretty much as legendary as you can get in MMA. While Bas has been retired for years, Josh Barnett is still up and kicking (or catch wrestling) as former champion and a current top ten heavyweight in the UFC. There’s probably no better duo to break down those enticing, hypothetical matchups that have been dominating the MMA universe over the last few weeks/months/years.
Since Barnett took over hosting duties for Mauro Ranallo this week, Bas decided to throw a wig on him so they could combine their decades of MMA experience into some thought-provoking fight breakdowns. We have:
1. Mark Hunt vs. Brock Lesnar (Probably the most detailed and realistic breakdown.)
2. Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (The second-most accurate fight analysis outside of Mayweather getting the instant KO.)
3. Mighty Mouse vs. Stefan Struve (If this happened the world would implode with joy.)
And then, the most important fight to never happen in the history of MMA, and arguably a top three fight that never happened in MMA history (behind Brock Lesnar/Fedor and maybe Josh Barnett/Fedor):
4. Ronda Rousey vs. Cris Cyborg
The breakdown for this fight, which will likely never happen, is actually quite interesting. Bas makes good points about Cyborg’s power, but Josh Barnett is a master grappler, and he sees the tools Ronda has in her usual playbook as all she needs to pull out the win.
