This week, there were visuals from Yuna Pines and Tyler, The Creator, Earthgang, Dreezy and Jacquees, City Girls and Kash Doll, G-Eazy and Gunna, YBN Cordae and Anderson Paak, Chance The Rapper, and Lil Baby. Smino, Noname and Saba also released their debut record as the Ghetto Sage supergroup. Here’s the best of the rest:
Gang Starr — “Bad Name”
After the success of “Family and Loyalty” with J. Cole, DJ Premier announced that a new Gang Starr album would be dropping on November 1st. He then celebrated the occasion with “Bad Name,” a single from the album. Guru’s lyrical exercise exemplifies how missed his voice is in the game, as the track harkens to a bygone golden era of hip-hop but radiates a refreshing vibe.
YK Osiris — “Worth It” Feat. Tory Lanez & Ty Dolla $ign
YK Osiris breathed new life into his “Worth It” track by getting Tory Lanez and Ty Dolla $ign to hop on a remix of the track that also serves as the intro to his The Golden Child album. They match his heartfelt chorus with pleading verses of their own, promising to give the women in their life whatever they desire.
Murs & The Grouch — Thees Handz“
Former Living Legends partners Murs and The Grouch have reunited. The duo is set to drop an album on November 8th. But before then, they whet fans’ appetites with a 2-song EP. “Thees Handz” is a surging track where the two trade bars over a raging cymbal and funky synth. “Be Nice” is a smoother track where the duo explores the benefits of being nice…lest you catch thees handz.
Smoke DZA & Benny The Butcher — “Drug Rap”
Smoke DZA and Benny The Butcher get straight to the point on “Drug Rap,” taking turns torching a lush, jazzy PETE Rock beat that’s the first offering from the trio’s upcoming Statue Of Limitations EP.
Fetty Wap — “SummerTime”
The Fall chill is creeping in throughout Fetty Wap’s native New Jersey, but it’s still “Summertime” in his world. After releasing the comeback FMV IV: The Hidden Chapter album earlier this week, he followed up with two more songs, including a reunion of his Remy Boyz collective. The crew take turns rhyming about their type of girl on a sultry soundscape.
Reese La Flare — “Hol Up”
Reese La Flare’s “Hol’ Up” is an ode to him “drippin’ since the crib” over a minimalist soundscape. The martial-arts themed video is also a fun watch.
Blac Youngsta — “Pain Killer”
Blac Youngsta offered up the latest taste of his Church On Sunday album with “Pain Killer,” a heartfelt single where he dishes a stream of consciousness about fakes in his life, his grandma’s advice, and staying loyal to loved ones.
Rubi Rose — “Hit Yo Dance” Feat. Yella Beezy & NLE Choppa
Rubi Rose, Yella Beezy anf NLE Choppa have fun on “Do Your Dance,” an OG Parker and Hitmaka production where the flip Birdman and Clipse’s “What Happened To That Boy” for a new generation.
Polo G — “ICY GRL (Remix)”
Earlier this week, Chicago’s Polo G remixed Saweetie’s “ICY GRL,” dropping some menacing bars over the redux of Khia’s “My Neck, My Back” hit.
Troy Ave — “So True”
Controversial Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave is still out here grindin’. His latest offering is “So True,” an introspective track where he delves into the cost of being true to yourself, surmising that “only the real relate to what I’m going through.”
Yoshi24K — “Pot’
Yoshi24K shows off his skills on “Pot,” where he unleashes a melodic, rapidfire flow over a thumping, hypnotic production.
