Here’s How ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ And ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Are Tied Together

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been solid all season, especially when Kyle MacLachlan’s been around, but you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s got nothing to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As they’d like to remind you, the two are connected, and Coulson may actually kick off the plot of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If you haven’t been watching, a quick recap: Coulson has been rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. since the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, not to mention tricking HYDRA into infighting, but it turns out that he’s not the only one. The two S.H.I.E.L.D.s have clashed, and Coulson had to go on the run… at least until he discovered Baron Von Strucker was up to something and surrendered to Adama up there. It’s actually been a pretty compelling arc, since NuS.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t really a collection of bad guys, but a group of good guys worried that Coulson is losing it and shouldn’t be in charge.

Next week’s episode has Coulson lead a team to a HYDRA base and, well, the title is “The Dirty Half-Dozen,” so the plot is self-explanatory. It appears that Coulson will be setting free Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, or at least that’s the sense I’m getting, and thus we’ll kick Avengers: Age of Ultron into motion. Although, if it comes down to it, I have to admit, I’d rather have them meet Daredevil.
