Maybe it’s just that most of this season’s new crop of sitcoms are a burnt loaf of nothing, but I’m enjoying ABC’s Selfie. It’s hard to get past the title — and it needs to be less premise-heavy and more “Karen Gillan and John Cho have wonderful chemistry together, so find ways to have them hanging out with a stronger supporting cast of characters” — but it’s certainly promising enough to deserve a second season. It might not have a chance, though. Ratings are not good (last night’s twin-bill lost to everything but repeats of The Flash and Supernatural in the key 18-49 demo), which is weird; you’d think more people would be interested in seeing Gillan dance to Wiz Khalifa, as she did in a recent episode.
It worked for that episode for NTSF: SD: SUV::, which is like the Guardians of the Galaxy of post-midnight Adult Swim programming. It could work for Selfie, too.
