Katy Perry has kicked a few hornet’s nests in the past week or so. Not only is her SNL performance allegedly carrying an unexpected controversy with it, but she also added fuel to her rift with fellow pop queen Taylor Swift. Perry followed it all up with an appearance on James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” special on Monday night. An extended version of the segment appeared on The Late Late Show later in the night and Perry went into detail about her feud with Swift, bluntly saying “she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it” to the host.
The short description of the situation involves backup dancers and some lapse in communication between the two. Perry seems to lay the blame directly on Swift, explaining that she’s tried to smooth things out numerous times according to E! News:
“I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn’t speak to me,” she tells Corden in the video, and he tries to confirm that there was a phone call.
“I do the right thing any time that it feels like a fumble,” Perry says. “It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I’m like, OK, cool, cool, cool, that’s how you want to deal with it? Karma!”
And she wasn’t done yet.
“But what I want to say is that I’m ready for that BS to be done. Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me daddy, there’s going to be a reaction. It’s all about karma, right? I think personally that women together, not divided, and none of this petty bulls–t, women together will heal the world.”
