In what is obviously a shameful attempt to combine all of our favorite things into one show, Community (yes) and BoJack Horseman (yes) star Alison Brie (yes) is starring in GLOW, an original Netflix (yes) series about a female wrestling league (yes) created by Orange Is the New Black‘s Jenji Kohan (yes).
The 10-episode comedy will follow Ruth (Brie), a “struggling actress whose dreams of fame take a surprising turn when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. GLOW stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, which debuted in 1986; as With Spandex pointed out, a lot of white people rapping terribly was involved.
This obviously isn’t the first time Brie and Kohan have worked with Netflix — the former voices Diane on BoJack, while the latter created Orange Is the New Black. Both shows are coming off their best seasons, and considering the talent involved — including co-creators and -showrunners Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (OITNB) — GLOW could be just as good. It’s also an excuse to remember the time Annie and Britta wrestled on Community.
Or that other time they wrestled on Community.
Gillian Jacobs (also on Netflix!) could totally play Debbie Debutante.
