Ahead of his much-anticipated debut fight, UFC took a trip to the Roufusport MMA Academy in Milwaukee for media day with CM Punk. After multiple delays, Punk will be stepping into the octagon at UFC 203 in front of millions of viewers who have no idea what to expect from the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Punk says that he’ll be heading into the fight the happiest he’s ever been, in the best shape of his life, and he’s totally prepared to square off against Mickey Gall:
I very much have a ‘I can’t wait ’til it’s over’ kinda feeling. I wanna get it over with because I feel like I’m ready. I feel ready. I’m prepared.
While Punk’s seemingly limited amount of training puts him in a bit of a wildcard position, there’s no shortage of people who are ready to see him get decimated inside the cage. Punk, however, thinks he’s going to surprise those folks:
People expect me to get knocked out. People expect me to get starched in, you know, 30 seconds. And then there’s people out there that realise once I step into the octagon I’ve already won. I don’t care if somebody wants to make fun of my technique, how not crisp my right hand is… it’s gonna land, you know, that’s the one I care about. The one that lands. Tell me I didn’t turn my wrist over soon enough? I don’t care. It landed. And I think that’s how I’m gonna surprise a lot of people.
UFC 203 goes down on September 10 in Cleveland, Ohio. Will those ‘haters’ choke on their words? Or will CM Punk get this newfound positivity beat right out of him? Does his confidence change your prediction of the outcome of the match? Let us know in the comments.
