Welcome back to another edition of the Dark Match Dungeon! As always, this is the feature where I dive headfirst into the unfriendly waters of YouTube to retrieve some forgotten footage of today’s wrestling stars. We’ve got a new NXT live special coming up, so I’m picking up where I left off with Sami Zayn last week and keeping the focus on the WWE Performance Center. Today, we’re looking at the NXT Women’s Champion, the incomparable Sasha Banks. Every wrestler starts somewhere, and Banks got her start among various New England promotions under the name Mercedes KV. Here she is in an intergender four-way match from Beyond Wrestling. (Spoiler: She is better than everyone else in this video, actual results of the match be damned.)

What To Look For:
- Sasha instantly having none of the patriarchy’s crap and shutting down a “test-i-cles” chant.
- The entire first two minutes being nothing but Sasha’s offense, including that super-smooth top-rope armdrag.
- Some familiar Indy wrestling faces in the crowd, including Pinkie Sanchez and Addy Starr.
- Denver Colorado (the man, not the place).
This is from one of Beyond’s unique studio shows, taped in front of no fans other than the wrestlers themselves. There are a lot of great gems on their YouTube channel, and I’d suggest giving them a look to see if you can spot any other familiar names. The info I’m getting suggests that this took place in February, 2012, about six months before she signed her WWE contract. Sasha is one of those rare people whose future is so bright that it’s actually kind of scary. At just 23, she’s already a champion and one of WWE’s best heels, bar none. Basically, she’s better than you at everything, especially hair flips.
