Muhammad Ali passed on Friday at the age of 74 after being hospitalized for a respiratory illness. Early reports claimed his stay would be short, but things quickly took a turn for the worse, drawing family members to his side for his final moments. We don’t know if daughter Hana Ali was by his side, but she shared some touching moments through her Instagram account that paid tribute to Ali the champion, and Ali the father.
In her final photo post, she wrote, “Our father was a ‘Humble Mountain!’ And now he has gone home to God. Pray for the peace of his beautiful soul and for the happiness of his further journey. God bless you daddy. YOU ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!”
Hana is the second of Ali’s nine children and the co-author of her father’s autobiography, The Soul of a Butterfly: Reflections on Life’s Journey. Before that she wrote More Than a Hero: Life Lessons from the Greatest, Presented Through His Daughter’s Eyes. Online, she’s shared many beautiful moments from her father’s life, including this candid shot of Ali and Prince.
Hana’s tribute was just one of many to memorialize the greatest boxer that ever lived. ESPN did an excellent job on a ten minute feature breaking down Ali’s accomplishments in and out of the boxing ring. In addition to capturing the heavyweight championship three times, he was an outspoken activist for equality and went to jail for refusing to fight in the Vietnam War. He was a remarkable man who will live on through his fights, words, and deeds.
