When someone kills a rumor that sounds like a wonderful idea, it’s almost like they’ve taken your favorite pet out back and blown it away with shotgun. You pick your visual, but that’s the one we’re going with. And we’re going with it because the rumor being killed this time is a possible Punisher series on Netflix.
The rumors surrounding a possible spinoff for the character following Daredevil season two are apparently just that, according to Marvel Television’s Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb in a report by Digital Spy:
“I think that’s something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that’s actually happening,” he said. “It’s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them.”
It’s understandable that nobody would want to commit to a series just yet. The original plans for these Marvel Netflix series has changed quite a bit since Daredevil season one, with season two coming as a bit of a surprise considering the original Defenders announcement. So, changing them again so soon with a Punisher announcement might seem a bit off.
But at the same time, this is Netflix. If they’re willing to capitalize on the success and add to the already established slate of productions, why wouldn’t you jump on The Punisher? Jon Bernthal is reportedly getting great reviews for his portrayal and the promotional material looks great to this point.
