Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes comic strip ran from 1985 to 1995, and it’s stayed with us ever since. We weren’t the only ones. Joel Allen Schroeder funded a documentary, Dear Mr. Watterson, via Kickstarter. It premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival in Watterson’s hometown. Now Gravitas Ventures has picked up distribution rights, and the film will have a limited theatrical run before hitting VOD this November 15th.
Dear Mr. Watterson […] features famous illustrators, actors and other fans of Calvin & Hobbes as they talk about the impact the comic strip had on their lives. Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County), Bill Amend (Foxtrot), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine) and Seth Green (Robot Chicken and Family Guy) are just some of the names featured in the film. [First Showing]
The trailer is below along with some of our favorite Calvin and Hobbes cosplay (besides the Calvin and Hobbes-themed wedding we’ve already featured). Special thanks to David Ngo and Cliff Norman for many of these cosplay pictures, and to raven12456 for the picture above.
Unfortunately, Bill Watterson isn’t in the documentary. We’ll have to drown our sorrows about it with adorable Calvin and Hobbes GIFs. Also vodka.
