If I hadn’t been beaten to the punch by Dime’s “Top 10 Jackers” list, Corey Maggette would have been the headliner on my NBA All-Ratchet Team, a.k.a. The Corey Maggette Shooting Stars (along with Mehmet Okur, Daequan Cook, Derek Fisher and Antawn Jamison in the starting five, and Damien Wilkins as the sixth man).
Maggette is currently averaging 19.7 points per game, hitting a career-low 42% from the field and a putrid 17% beyond the arc. And according to SI‘s Chris Mannix, the Warriors — losers of seven in a row going into tomorrow night’s game at Houston — are already regretting signing Maggette to his monster deal this offseason:
Five games, five Golden State losses and a more than 2:1 turnover-to-assist ratio. Maggette’s selfish play hasn’t gone unnoticed by other players. According to sources, after the final buzzer against Boston, Celtics forward Kevin Garnett turned to Maggette and shouted, “Way to get your numbers.”
“He just puts his head down and goes to the basket,” an Eastern Conference scout said. “He doesn’t even look to pass.”
Unless they’re vying for a Bay Area playground ‘chip, it’s looking more and more like Golden State will have to make a move around the time Monta Ellis gets back, or else there will be inevitable issues with Monta, Maggette, Stephen Jackson and Jamal Crawford all feeling like they need shots.
If you’re the Warriors, do you look to trade Maggette this season, or try to deal someone else?
