One thing we know about famous people is they always want to be famous for something they aren’t currently famous for. Rock stars want to be pro ballers; actors wish they were musicians. LeBron James is no different. He wants to be a movie star. He’s already thinking about that existential crisis that is life after basketball. At least that’s what he indicated to TNT’s Rachel Nichols in this one-on-one that aired Wednesday.
He’s reaching a little, but don’t begrudge a man’s hopes. At the 4:50 mark in the video above, James talks about his dream of donning the Bat Suit.
I always talked about it as a kid, and even as an adult. I was like, “Wow,” you know. I always wanted to be the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And then when I got older, the Bad Boys movies, I was like, “I would love to do an action movie.” Either be, like, a cop or something, or be, like, Batman. Hopefully I can do some more things. Maybe. We’ll see.
Does LeBron want to be in movies, or does he specifically want to be Will Smith? If he’s charting Will’s career path circa 1999 through 2006, it’s not a bad way to go when you think about it.
LeBron’s done some fun ads, playing various versions of himself or showing his neutral, family man image. Whether or not he can access the anguish of Bruce Wayne’s inner orphan is another question entirely. But LeBron’s made a career of proving people wrong.
In other words: Watch out, Affleck.
