‘Doctor Strange’ Will Embrace The Weird And Show The Dark Dimension

Doctor Strange is shaping up to be one of the most unique Marvel movies yet, with Benedict Cumberbatch cast as the Sorcerer Supreme and going head to head against Mads Mikkelsen‘s indeterminate villain in a “battle of the cheekbones.” Recently, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige sat down with Empire to talk about the film, and how it will be nothing like the previous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As Feige puts it, per Comic Book Movie:

“There are more things that lurk in shadows in this movie, perhaps, than our other movies.”

He also confirms that fans will see glimpses of the Dark Dimension in the film, adding to the overt mysticism of Strange’s strange world:

“We see glimpses of something called the Dark Dimension,” he said. “But if you were to open a Doctor Strange comic drawn by Steve Ditko, you would see the Dark Dimension is, in fact, very colorful in an extremely psychedelic way. Those are the things we’re not shying away from.”

According to the comics, the Dark Dimension is a mysterious realm where the supervillains Dormammu and Umar are banished. So, could this provide a hint about Mikkelsen’s as of yet unknown role? As with all Marvel projects, things are sure to remain shrouded in mystery until just before or during the film’s release.
