An Investigation: Which Female Pop Star Is Taylor Swift Secretly Feuding With?

Josh already covered the portion of Taylor Swift’s new Rolling Stone interview in which she said that she’s done being the butt of everyone’s jokes all the time (never!), but in that same interview she also dropped a small bombshell about an ongoing feud with a fellow female artist. A track off of her new album 1989 called “Bad Blood”  is actually not another song about a guy, as many have assumed, but the female artist in question — who Swifty refuses to name in true passive aggressive Taylor Swift style.

Rolling Stone writes:

“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” she says. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'”

Then last year, the other star crossed a line. “She did something so horrible,” Swift says. “I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”

(Pressed, Swift admits there might have been a personal element to the conflict. “But I don’t think there would be any personal problem if she weren’t competitive,” she says.)

Scandalous! So who has been around for long enough, since this has been going on for “years,” and is a big enough of a name to be able to attempt to sabotage a Taylor Swift tour? I’ve collected some suspects and listed them in order of least to most likely.

Britney Spears — Britney is like the human equivalent of a Golden Retriever. Sweet, loyal and not terribly bright. I don’t believe Britney has a mean bone in her body to be able to pull something like this off.

Selena Gomez — True, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are supposed to be very good friends, but I could definitely see some frenemy action going on here. As a very wise man named Bill McNeal once said, “Show me a woman who isn’t jealous of another woman, and I’ll show you a man.”

Plus I like an excuse to post this gif:

Christina Aguilera — Ehh, I could maybe see this, but Christina Aguilera is usually either drunk or pregnant, so I don’t know if she bothers with celebrity feuds these days. I mean there was that one with Kelly Osbourne back in the day, but to be fair what female celebrity hasn’t feuded with Kelly Osbourne.

Beyoncé — Doubtful. Queen Bey ain’t got time for this sh*t.

Adele — It’s probably not about Adele, but I ranked her this high on the list only because how awesome would it be if it was? Adele is generally classy and I would love it so much if she secretly hated Taylor Swift.

Katy Perry — Perry comes off like a naive dumb-dumb, but I could see deep down her having a super catty side. Plus stylistically, she’s probably the most similar of anyone on this list to Taylor Swift.

Miley Cyrus — Miley Cyrus can act like an a-hole sometimes, and I would totally believe that she’s got it in her to resent Taylor Swift’s goody two-shoes image and would want to pull this crap just to spite her. Plus, she’s always touring so there’s that.

Lady Gaga — I could see Lady Gaga doing this solely for the purpose of trying to instigate Taylor Swift into a public feud and make herself relevant again, since her music career has been on a downward trajectory in the past couple of years. I mean, she refers to her Twitter followers as her “monsters” for f*ck’s sake.

Rihanna — I fully believe Rihanna would do something like this solely for the entertainment of Rihanna. Plus, this part? “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?‘” That has got Rihanna shade written all over it.

Did I miss anyone? I have a feeling we won’t have to wait too long for the Swifty-hating culprit to surface.
