Carmelo Anthony Was On SNL

I’m never one to toot my own horn, not since I learned the hard way that removing a rib doesn’t work, but a while back I put together an Uproxx feature of celebs that Saturday Night Live should at least think about inviting to host – not necessarily suggesting they’d do a good job, but just for the change of pace. One of the celebrities that I included is New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, who made two cameos on SNL this past Saturday night.

My reason for throwing Melo on SNL was that the show is notorious for letting superstar athletes show that they have no comedic timing or acting chops – with the lone exception of Peyton Manning – so why not strike while the iron is hot and invite the potential new face of New York sports? Surprisingly, Melo didn’t do a terrible job playing a female shot put competitor and a singing cop in the Laser Cats Digital Short, but he certainly didn’t save the show from being hoooooooooooorrible. Seth Meyers’ Weekend Update was painfully awkward and… nope, I’m going to stop myself now since I have been known to rant about SNL at length.

The fact remains that I called this and should be writing for SNL instead of hipster NYU grads who think political cold opens are still funny. Damn it, I’m ranting again. Videos below.
