All signs pointed to Team USA snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis finally establishing herself as a gold medalist at the 2014 Winter Olympics, as she was running away with the lead in the snowboard cross semifinals yesterday. After a fall, though, Jacobellis finished in seventh and will head home without a medal this time, but to her credit, Jacobellis has a pretty good outlook on her unfortunate accident. She’s also probably distracted by the prize that she is bringing home from Sochi.
Just like American freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, Jacobellis might be delaying her return to the U.S. while she awaits the veterinary paperwork and government approval for the stray puppy that she’s adopting. And if you’re wondering why she’d want to take home some random dog that she picked up off the street in Sochi, just look at this adorable little face.
Additionally, U.S. press officer and former Olympian Amanda Bird said that she’ll be taking home a Sochi stray as well, but she’s looking to bring home an older pooch, because all of the other athletes are scooping up the puppies. Bird said her decision isn’t a statement as much as she just loves animals. Hell, she cried when she left Tennessee because she hated leaving her own puppy behind.
“I’m not trying to make a statement, I just want to bring a dog home,” she said. “I’ve been amazed how much people have been coming up to me and asking me about it.
“I need a billionaire who has a plane who’s willing to let me take 100 dogs on the flight with me back to the U.S. When the lottery gets above $50 million, we play. I always tell my husband if I ever hit the lottery, we’re going to buy acres of land and we’re going to save horses, save dogs. I don’t care where they’re from. I’m just one of those ridiculous people.” (Via WUSA9)
Maybe when they all get back from Sochi, they can swing by Maryvale, Arizona and pick up some Chihuahuas, too.
