Notre Dame conducted an internal investigation this summer into academic fraud and as a result, four football players have been dismissed from the school according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Those four players are DaVaris Daniels, defensive back KeiVarae Russell, defensive lineman Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore. The first three were considered starters on this year’s team.

This could result in the vacancy of the 2012 season that saw the Irish go 12-0 before losing in the National Championship game.

The situation was described to Yahoo Sports as a potential “honor code violation,” which could result in the ineligibility of the players. Under NCAA protocol, if any fraud that occurred impacted players’ eligibility, the school could ultimately vacate victories. Both Daniels and Russell were significant players during Notre Dame’s 2012 season, when the Irish went 12-0 before losing to Alabama in the BCS Championship Game.

This is just beginning to leak out so details are kind of murky but WOW. The scandal reportedly involves academic advisers and a tutor who wrote papers for athletes during the 2012 season. Again, it’s early, so this could get much, much worse.
