A lot of things have gone right for the New York Mets over the last few weeks. The squad is 8-2 over its last 10 games, and it holds a two game lead over the Washington Nationals in the NL East. In fact, it’s not a stretch to say that the Mets – much to the delight of Jon Stewart – are the best story in baseball right now.

Sadly, New York lost one of its players to a freak injury today, likely for the season. Reliever Jerry Blevins suffered an injury while stepping off a curb that led to him fracturing his pitching arm.

This isn’t the first time Blevins injured his left arm this season, as he fractured the radius bone when it was hit by a line drive in April. Blevins re-injured the bone today.

Fortunately the Mets don’t really need Blevins right now. Sure, he was really good in limited time this year, as he was 1-0 with 5.0 IP and five holds in seven appearances, but the Mets have one of the best bullpens in the league and should be able to take care of business without the lefty.
