Aaron Rodgers Was Sad Like Everyone Else After That ‘Game Of Thrones’ Hail Mary

Sunday night’s Game of Thrones episode was a bit frantic, a bit confusing especially for those that haven’t accepted that you have to suspend all belief of concepts of time and distance traveled this season, and a bit emotional. If you haven’t watched “Beyond The Wall” yet, I suggest you bow out of this post right now because there are SPOILERS coming your way very, very soon.

Game of Thrones is a cultural phenomenon at this point and Sunday nights on Twitter have essentially become a big live tweeting session around the world — although last night it got a bit confusing figuring out what were Thrones reactions and what were SummerSlam reactions — and that includes some very famous people. In the sports world, there may be no more famous Game of Thrones fan than Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and on Sunday night, he had some thoughts on what happened.

Again, SPOILERS ahead.

So, the basic gist of Sunday night’s episode was Jon Snow and his all-star squad of bad asses went north of the wall with a terrible plan to capture a wight. Shockingly, that backfired, but as has become tradition, right as Jon and company are about to be killed while surrounded by the enemy, someone shows up to save the day. This time, it was Dany and her dragons — all three came, for some reason — and wiped out much of the army of the dead. However, the Night King got the last laugh as he threw an ice spear and took out one of the non-Drogon dragons, in a very sad death scene.

That throw became immediate fodder for jokes on Twitter, because the Night King absolutely launched that thing with incredible pace and accuracy. Rodgers, a man known for his arm strength and accuracy, and a propensity for connecting on a Hail Mary or two, had some thoughts.

We all do, Aaron. We all do. Rodgers wasn’t alone in bringing sports into the Thrones discussion of the Night King’s spear toss, as the U.S. Olympic Team even got in on the action, asking if anyone had a contact for him so they could try and get him to join their javelin team.
