Colin Kaepernick’s Jersey Sales Have Skyrocketed Since He Began His Protest

Some fans have set fire to Colin Kaepernick’s 49ers jersey, while others have only attempted to set fire to it. These protests of a protest doesn’t seem to be doing much good since, for every burnt jersey, there are plenty more being purchased.

Before Kaep began his protest against police brutality and racial inequality by sitting (and later kneeling out of respect for the military) during the national anthem, he had the 20th-best selling jersey on the 49ers team site. Considering the site still sells Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott jerseys, this isn’t completely unimpressive, but it still puts his lack of popularity as a player in the bay area into perspective.

However, his protest has turned heads, and it seems like a silent majority are agreeing with Kaepernick’s stance, and are helping make his promised upcoming million-dollar donation to various charities a little easier on his wallet. His jersey is now third in the 49ers store.

The latest news on Kaepernick is that he’ll make the final 49ers roster, after being on the bubble through much of the preseason. Blaine Gabbert’s mediocre play has done nothing to motivate the San Francisco brass to move on from Kaep, even with a divisive protest dominating the airwaves. These jersey sales probably help his cause for sticking around as well.
