WBC super welterweight titleholder Jermell Charlo made his first title defense on Saturday night against Charles Hatley and retained his belt in spectacular fashion by way of a sixth round knockout. Charlo dominated Hatley for the first five rounds before stopping the fight in the sixth with a vicious right hook that capped off a flurry of power punches, sending Hatley face first into the canvas and almost out of the ring.

It was a brilliant exhibition of boxing skill from Charlo on Saturday night in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York that saw him pick apart Hatley until the contender had nothing more for Charlo at the start of the sixth. The flurry began with a sharp jab that snapped Hatley’s head back and then Charlo proceeded to rip shots to the head and body until he was able to catch Hatley flush with the sweeping hook that knocked him out cold.

The knockout improved Charlo’s perfect record to 29-0 and 14 knockouts thanks to the recent power surge from the WBC champ that’s seen him stop his last three opponents. The twin Charlo brothers — Jermell and Jermall — are now 6-0 (5 KOs) in super welterweight title fights, as they are dominating the 154-pound division. Each has a special combination of skill and power, and it stands to reason, at 26 soon to be 27, that they could own the super welterweight division for years to come the way the Klitschko brothers once did at heavyweight.
