This Golfer Attempted A Shot From The Water’s Edge, And It Ended Hilariously Bad

There was quite a lot of great sports action that happened over Memorial Day Weekend. The Indianapolis 500 ran on Sunday, the NBA’s Western Conference Finals came to a thrilling conclusion, and the NHL’s Stanley Cup Final kicked off in Pittsburgh. With that being said, there is no question that the video you see above is the weekend’s single greatest sports highlight.

The video comes to us via the Instagram of NHL legend Teemu Selanne, who appears to have spent his Memorial Day enjoying a nice round on the links with some friends. One of those friends, however, didn’t have such a great experience.

After narrowly managing to avoid sending his ball into one of the course water hazards, the friend tried to play the following shot from where it laid on the water’s edge. That turned out to be an awfully poor decision!

I’m not sure what other scenario he envisioned playing out in his mind, but this seemed like a forgone conclusion as soon as he declared “it’s getting dicey!” on the bank. Also, if you’re going to sacrifice yourself for the sake of a shot, you should at least make sure it’s a better shot than this one.

Either way, at the very least this guy gets points to being able to laugh at himself. The “OH NO!” he yelped just before hitting the water was pure comedic gold. Actually, pretty much everything in this short clip is pure comedic gold. The swing, the fall, the laughter, this guy’s reaction…

And then it’s all topped off with the sudden realization that the splashdown may have taken the guy’s wallet away from him.

As a pretty bad golfer myself, I can empathize with the constant struggle of trying to stay out of the drink. However, usually it’s a struggle to keep my ball out of the water, not my body. Unfortunately for Selanne’s buddy, he needs some work on both.
