Margot Robbie cast as Tonya Harding in ‘I, Tonya’

The crazy tale of the 1994 rivalry between figure skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan looks to be getting the big screen treatment.

Deadline is reporting that Margot Robbie has signed on to play Harding in the film I, Tonya.  The movie will follow the champion skater”s up and downs and, of course, the infamous moment in which her husband Jeff Gillooly hired goons to break Kerrigan”s leg at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Kerrigan only suffered bruises as a result of the beating and was able to compete at the Lillehammer Olympics, winning a silver medal.  Harding, on the other hand, came in eighth at the Olympics.

In the months that followed, Harding would plead guilty to conspiring to hinder prosecution and was banned for life from U.S. Figure Skating Association. She would also receive probation, community serve and a hefty fine. Gillooly and the  other conspirators would all serve prison time for the attack.

I, Tonya is being produced by Bryan Unkeless (The Hunger Games series) and Margot Robbie”s LuckyChap Entertainment.
