The robot got an upgrade, and this operating system is ready to roll. After Marco Rubio landed a series of well-timed punches on Donald Trump at Thursday evening’s CNN GOP debate, Rubio executed a merciless attack on Trump at a Dallas rally. In doing so, he proved that he wasn’t simply a well-rehearsed candidate. He’s fully shifted gears and emerged as a deadly cyborg, and honest to god, he proved that he could possibly save the Republican party from a Trump nomination.
At this rally, Rubio truly gave no f*cks and launched into a Trump-esque stand-up comedy routine. This was a fairly impromptu performance where he pulled out Trump’s brand new tweets. Have you seen them yet? Trump dropped several misspelled tweets that mocked the hell out of Rubio. He typed, “Wow, every poll said I won the debate last night. Great honer!” Twice, he tweeted that Rubio was “a leightweight chocker.” The screencaps are glorious and shall live on forever.
Rubio read these tweets aloud to the crowd’s delight. He trashed Trump’s errors, which he says are either down to (1) his business-school spelling skills; or (2) hiring “a foreign worker to do his tweets.” Rubio also laughed at Trump calling him “Mr. Meltdown” with a perfect series of slams:
“He called me Mr. Meltdown … during one of the breaks, two of the breaks, he went backstage .. he was having a meltdown. First he had this little makeup thing, applying makeup around his mustache because he had one of those little sweat mustaches. Then he asked for a full-length mirror … I don’t know … Maybe to make sure his pants weren’t wet … Then I see him pacing back and forth and then he’s huddled in the corner talking to someone, and he’s like waving his arms up and down, and the person’s trying to calm him down … but I’m a chocker.”
Rubio then dropped more fire about about Trump’s “con man” routine. After a few more minutes, the camera panned away to the CNN anchors, who said, “Oh. My. God. It is ON.”
FYI: After Rubio unleashed some spelling truth, Trump (or his foreign worker) corrected the tweets. Trump has never been shamed into a correction until now. Rubio just scored some major points in this war for the GOP nomination.
