J.R. Smith has been having a busy offseason coming up with shirt designs, opening up his own store, planning his honeymoon, and even starring in his own video game.

One thing Smith has not done though is sign with an NBA team to play next season. Despite being a starter on a championship squad a season ago, neither the Cavaliers nor any other team has signed Smith, and we are now into mid-August. It always has seemed like a foregone conclusion that Smith would end up back with Cleveland, but around a month ago whispers started that maybe it wasn’t as cut-and-dry as it seemed.

Now, the season is right around the corner, and with Smith still a free agent, the whispers are starting to get louder. Somewhat understandably, Smith is tired of talking about it, and when he addressed the situation to Uninterrupted during his recent charity golf tournament, Smith told “media guys” who would be attending the event to take it up with his agent.

The Cavs open up their season against Orlando on October 5, so the clock is ticking for the two sides to come to an agreement. If not, maybe Smith will land elsewhere once the season starts, or maybe he’ll just hang out and not bother to play basketball this year. With J.R. Smith, he’s the only one who really knows what he’ll do next.
