Artist Turns Nature Into 8-bit Sprites

Shawn Smith is an artist from Texas who apparently doesn’t get out much, because he tries to depict animals he’s never seen outside of video games as real-life, 8-bit designs. Although why cardinals are swarming an anvil is beyond us. Usually when we put out an anvil, it’s attacked by blue jays.
The results are…well…you can see for yourself. As he lays it out in Wired, each one is the culmination of hours of work: Smith puts together an architectural design, and then cuts out each block by hand before painting them and gluing them together to create each piece.
Check out the slides after the jump to see a few more of his pieces. Not going outside has never looked so good.
