CBS Is Making ‘Candy Crush’ Into A Real Game Show

Candy Crush Saga may not have invented the match-3 video game, but it certainly made it impossible to escape. The game, with its incessant notifications and shameless gold-digging, is more or less a fixture of both Facebook and mobile, like it or not, to the point where it managed to trademark the word “candy”. And now it’s coming to TV screens, thankfully as a game show.

CBS has announced it’s teaming up with Lionsgate to create an hour-long prime time game show out of the game. And yes, people will be genuinely, physically, be playing Candy Crush:

In the series, the game that has become a worldwide phenomenon comes to life as teams of two people use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous, interactive game boards featuring next generation technology to conquer CANDY CRUSH and be crowned the champions.

So in other words, we can finally thrill to people physically struggling with that f***ing chocolate and screaming curses at it on television, instead of just doing it ourselves at the bus stop. How, precisely, this format will carry an hour, though, is a good question. There’s really only so long you can watch people shove around virtual candy, so we’re assuming there will be a bit more to it. As for the host, CBS hasn’t cast the role yet, which is a bit silly since Stephen Colbert already nailed the role. Come on, CBS, promote from within!
