‘Mafia III’ Has A Release Date And A New Violent, Vengeance-Fueled Trailer

2K Games’ Mafia III has flown under the radar a bit, but it really is one of the most promising games of 2016. The Mafia franchise has always brought solid open-world titles, but it’s never had terribly unique or engaging plots. That changes with Mafia III, as this time around the game is set in New Orleans, and stars Lincoln Clay, a biracial Vietnam War vet. Lincoln’s father worked for the New Orleans mob, but as often happens, they turned on him and put a bullet in his head. Now Lincoln’s back with some very dangerous army training to take the Italians out and form his own mob.

The new Mafia III story trailer, which you can check out above, really delves into things, and it looks like this game is going to get intense. When a bearded Lincoln Clay vows to take everything away from the mob, you know he’s not lying. The second half of the trailer is dedicated to some satisfyingly brutal goombah-killing action, and lots of sexy 1960s-era vehicles. And it’s all set to a pretty sweet version of “Son of a Preacher Man.” This game is looking good.

2K Games has also announced a release date for Mafia III. You can start exploring the dark side of The Big Easy on Oct. 7, 2016.
