Well, it’s a good time to be Michael K. Williams’ agent. The former star of The Wire recently landed a role in Ghostbusters, and there’s now word that he also has a major role in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie.

The Assassin’s Creed movie stars Michael Fassbender as Desmond Miles, the modern-day protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed series. As in the games, Desmond will be captured by the shadowy Templars and sent back in time into the body of a badass assassin ancestor. The movie will also star Marion Cotillard and Ariane Labed. It’s not yet known which historical period the movie will be set in, but cross your fingers for pirates.

Not much is known about the character who Williams will play, either, other than the fact that it’s a significant role that has the potential to be a recurring one if the Assassin’s Creed movie is successful enough to become a series. Given that Assassin’s Creed is always changing up its historical time periods, it seems likely that Williams will play one of Desmond’s modern-day allies, but there’s always a chance he might play an another Assassin. I’ve always kind of suspected that Omar was secretly an Assassin in The Wire killing Templars.

What do you folks think? Could Assassin’s Creed actually be the rare, decent video game movie? It’s certainly accumulating an impressive cast.
