‘Pokemon Go’ Is Celebrating Halloween With More Candy

Pokémon Go, the mobile game where you catch them all, is a life-extending, monster-catching, Trump-supporter-annoying phenomenon, and like any online game, it’s decided to celebrate the holidays, with either monsters you need to collect or monsters you’re already hip-deep in.

First off, the good news: You get more candy, between October 26th and November 1st. No, not real candy, the stuff you feed to your Pokémon to make them big and strong in a hilarious distortion of what reality is like. Catching, hatching, and transferring Pokémon will get you double candy, but if you’ve got a little buddy you’re walking, you get four times as much candy. So if you were planning on bulking up a monster, now’s the time to do it. Also, it seems likely some dude will try to walk 100km over those six days to power up his Magikarp. Hey, it’s not impossible. It’s just 16km a day. Eight miles!

The slightly less good news is that seven monsters will be more common to find: Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Zubat, Golbat, Drowzee, and Hypnos. So, yeah, not exactly an improvement, unless you’re a new player still excited to find that flapping little annoyance. Speaking for the New England contingent, the whole area is lousy with Drowzee, and we don’t need anymore Zubat. Ever. Really, if Niantic wants to horrify and revolt people playing the game, they should time the long-overdue nerfing of Snorlax for October 31st.
