Exclusive clip: ‘Karate Kid’ Ralph Macchio tells ‘Oprah’ he was ‘an idiot’

Remember “The Karate Kid”? No, not the one with Jayden Smith, the original, way back in the ’80s. It turns out you always had a good reason for liking Ralph Macchio, and not just because he gave you that crane kickboxing move to try out at the gym. In this exclusive clip from the OWN series “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” (Fri. Jan. 10 at 8:00 p.m.), the ’80s teen dreamboat looks back on his greatest year (career wise, of course) and has a laugh.

It turns out Macchio made perfectly reasonable plans for his future, which don’t actually seem that crazy. I mean, a lot of young stars (granted, he wasn’t an actual teen heartthrob; he just passed for one) become raging drug addicts, blow all their cash on cars and blow, and end up doing infomercials. If that happened to Macchio, we didn’t hear about it. He still looks pretty great, he’s been married to his wife since 1987, and he’s had no problem poking fun at his image in everything from “How I Met Your Mother” to an awesome Funny or Die short, the title of which we probably shouldn’t print. Well played, Johnny Cade. Well played.

What do you think of Ralph Macchio now?
