It wouldn't be Game of Thrones is there wasn't one great mystery presented just as another is solved.
During the final moments of episode 2, “Home,” Jon Snow opened his eyes upon the world once again, finally ending months of evasive answers from both actor Kit Harington and executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss about the character's ultimate fate.
Just as they moved past one big question mark, however, the series presented another. One that book readers have never heard. Hodor. The long-beloved gentle giant (well, not literally) of the series has mostly been considered amazing, but in all likelihood disposable. No longer.
During the episode's opening sequence, we saw a flashback (via Bran's vision) of a young Ned, Lyanna, and Benjen Stark. Also present was Hodor as a boy…only he wasn't named Hodor. He was named Wylis and HE. COULD. TALK.
So the questions immediately became: What happened to Hodor!?! Wait, Wylis…And what does Hodor mean? And why are none of the Starks talking about it?
He must have seen and experienced something profound. And you can bet that it's important.
