Watch: Jeff Tweedy, Mavis Staples and Sean Lennon spread cheer on ‘Colbert Report’

Stephen Colbert spread a lot of Christmas cheer last night as Jeff Tweedy, Mavis Staples, and John Lennon/Yoko Ono”s son Sean Lennon performed Lennon/Ono”s holiday staple, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” on “The Colbert Report” final new show of the season.

Accompanied by the Harlem Gospel Choir, Staples takes the lead on the tune, while Tweedy, who produced Staples” 2010 album “You Are Not Alone,” and Lennon joined in later

Their performance concluded several days of holidays tunes on the Comedy Central show: chiming in earlier in the week were Elvis Costello and Diana Krall, as well as Michael Stipe and Mandy Patinkin.

Last night”s version of “Happy Xmas” is available on ITunes and all proceeds will go to Sandy relief efforts.
