Hollywood recently deemed 37-year-old actress Maggie Gyllenhaal too old to play the love interest of an unnamed 55-year-old male actor, prompting howls of outrage from fans and the media alike. Now, 2015 Tony winner Helen Mirren has entered the fray with her own perfect summation of the ageism debacle:
“It”s fucking outrageous,” said the Dame during a sit down at The Wrap's Power Breakfast on Tuesday. “It”s ridiculous. And “twas ever thus. We all watched James Bond as he got more and more geriatric, and his girlfriends got younger and younger. It”s so annoying.”
