The gangster drama “Idol's Eye” sleeps with the fishes. The movie, which was set to star Robert De Niro, Robert Pattinson, and Rachel Weisz has, apparently, been shut down just as filming was set to commence.
According to Deadline, Benaroya Pictures has closed the production. The film was to have been directed by Olivier Assayas in Toronto, and while it may return one day, it won't be in the same fashion.
Benaroya's statement on the halting of production in part reads, “The company cannot continue to put its investment at risk and has been forced to stop cash flowing the production. This is something all of us wanted to avoid, but due to the producers missing a number of financing criteria deadlines that were mutually established by all parties, we were left with no other options. Benaroya Pictures plans to retain the rights of the film and move forward with production on the picture after we generate a revised script and assemble a new filmmaking team.”
“Idol's Eye” is based on a Playboy article written by Hillel Levin called “Boosting the Big Tuna.” It is the story of a group of robbers (which was to have been led by Pattinson) who break into the home of a Chicago mobster (who was to have been played by De Niro).
