‘Suicide Squad’ cast ruins their rotten reputations on way to wrap party

“Suicide Squad” has wrapped production.

One of the things that surprised me most about the Comic-Con sizzle reel that then turned into a Comic-Con leak that then turned into an official release was that it only represented two weeks worth of shooting. They packed a hell of a lot into that first two weeks of production, and it makes me wonder what a real trailer for the film is going to look like once director David Ayer and Warner Bros. have had time to consider it more carefully.

The cast should be careful, though. If they keep doing random nice things, they're going to ruin their reputation. Consider this, for example:

Awwwwww. No fair making me think Jai Courteney is a perfectly nice guy. I want to reserve the right to dislike him because of his movies, and now he seems charming and decent. What fun is that?

It's going to be interesting to me to see how they sell “Suicide Squad” to an audience that doesn't already know obscure and not-so-obscure Batman villains by sight. I'll be writing more about this tomorrow, but my parents (both in their 70s) are in LA right now, and when my sons showed them the trailer to the film last night, they were straight-up baffled by it. When I told my dad “it's 'Dirty Dozen' with Batman villains,” he got it, but the trailer didn't communicate that to him in a way that made him want to see it at all.

“Suicide Squad” is in theaters August 5, 2016.
