‘Suicide Squad’ sequel could have an R rating

It”s still almost four months until Suicide Squad hits the theaters, but director David Ayer already has plans for the sequel. And it could be a lot darker.

In an interview with MTV, Ayer said that the next iteration of the anti-superhero movie might just be aiming for an R rating. While there”s no rating yet for the first film, it”s expected to land a PG-13.

When asked about an R-rated sequel, Ayer explained, “It would be worth lobbying for.” He added, “For an R movie, you have to decide to do it right out the gate.”

If Ayer is looking for proof of concept for an R-rated superhero movie, he need look no further than Deadpool. The Ryan Reynolds movie is already the highest grossing R-rated movie ever, with a worldwide box office in excess of $750 million.

But first things first. Suicide Squad, starring Margot Robbie, Ben Affleck, Will Smith and Jared Leto is slated for an August 5 release.
