Ike Barinholtz was a guest on “The Howard Stern Show” this morning, and while the comedian couldn't discuss any plot details or reveal which character he's playing in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie — “If you say anything, you're dead,” he described of an email he received from a producer on the film regarding his “Stern” appearance — he did have a few fun behind-the-scenes anecdotes to share from the set. Here's a quick rundown for those interested (full audio clip below):
1. Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff put on a full concert for the cast and crew during filming.
“He's one of those guys, he's so rich, that all he wants to do is buy people shit and have parties,” said Barinholtz of his A-list co-star, who not only rented out an auditorium for the cast and crew to watch the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight but put on a concert with his sometime musical partner DJ Jazzy Jeff during filming: “He had a party and him and DJ Jazzy Jeff came out and sang ten songs,” Barinholtz described. A warmup for their forthcoming world tour, mayhaps?
2. Margot Robbie made frequent use of her tattoo gun on set.
“She has a tattoo gun, so [the cast would] get drunk and [she'd be] like, 'alright, let me give you a tattoo.' And one of the guys she tattooed, she made a big typo. And he was like, 'oh it's cool, don't worry about it!'” In Robbie's defense, the misspelling was likely intentional — unless, of course, she managed to misspell the already intentionally-misspelled “Skwad”? It's all very confusing.
3. He recounted stories of Jared Leto's Method insanity.
Leto, who remained in character as the Joker for the duration of shooting (“he kept himself separate,” Barinholtz recounted), pulled some crazy stunts even before the movie started shooting. Here's Barinholtz's account of that now-infamous rat-and-pig incident:
“He did this crazy thing…all the actors were rehearsing, and his character is in love with Margot Robbie — she's Harley Quinn…so we're rehearsing, and this actor who plays the Joker's kind of lieutenant, walks in and he goes, 'Present for Ms. Quinn.' Hands her a box. She opens the box, and a live, giant black rat pops out. And we're like, 'What the fuck is going on? That's crazy!' So 20 minutes later, we're still rehearsing, and the actor comes back in and he goes, 'This is for the squad from Mr. J. And he throws a pig on the table, a dead pig, and as he puts the pig on the table all these bullets start to come out of it…this is in a rehearsal space a month before we started shooting.”
Did we know previously that bullets were coming out of the dead pig when it was delivered? Charming!
“Suicide Squad” hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
