President Obama is nothing if not a “cool nerd,” which is probably the best category of person to belong to. This cool nerdness was on full display in South Africa the other day, where the President encountered a 15-year-old rapper named Aviwe Mtongana while on a tour of the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation Youth Centre in Cape Town.
After encouraging Aviwe to perform, which the kid totally did without breaking a sweat, President Obama tried to treat him to a fist bump. And he was TOTALLY DENIED — which I’m going to chalk up to some sort of cultural disconnect. To compensate, our great and goofy leader made a joke about “dropping the mic,” because he is very much in the know about all things hip hop, and now I want to marry him forever.
